Privacy Policy — Pull My Finger (Chrome extension)
Last updated: September 7, 2026
Pull My Finger is developed and published by OpenJargon. The extension exists to make you
laugh, not to collect your data. This page describes exactly what the extension stores and
transmits.
What we collect
- A random device identifier, generated by our server the first time the
extension registers. It is not derived from your hardware, browser fingerprint or any
personal attribute.
- A fun display name (e.g. “Captain Thunderpants #42”), auto-generated on
install. You can change it at any time in the extension's options page. Please don't put
personal information in it — it is shown publicly on the daily scoreboard.
- Fart counts and their timestamps — one “+1” event each time a fart is
played, used solely to compute your total and the daily scoreboard.
What we never collect
- No name, email address, or account — there is nothing to sign up for.
- No browsing history: the pages you visit are never read or transmitted. The extension's
content script runs locally to display the floating hand and play sounds; it does not
send page URLs or page content anywhere.
- No location data beyond what any web server technically receives (IP address, used
transiently for rate limiting and abuse prevention, not stored in your profile).
New tab page & search
The extension replaces Chrome's new tab page with its own: a search box, quick shortcuts,
and the hand. Anything you type in that search box is handed directly to your browser's
default search engine through Chrome's built-in search API — your queries
never pass through, and are never seen, modified or stored by, our servers. We do not
change your default search engine.
- Once, right after installation, the extension performs a single automatic search in a
background tab to find out which search engine is your default (Google, Bing, Yahoo or
other), so the new tab page can show matching shortcuts. Only the engine's name (e.g.
“google”) is kept, locally in your browser; the tab closes itself immediately.
- The shortcut icons on the new tab page are loaded from Google's public favicon service.
Like loading any image on the web, that request technically exposes your IP address to
the service — nothing else is sent, and no ads appear on the new tab page.
Where data lives
Preferences (prank settings, hand position, your display name and device credentials) are
stored locally in your browser via Chrome's extension storage. Scoreboard data (device
identifier, display name, daily fart counts) is stored on our servers at openjargon.com.
Advertising
The extension's bonus page shows one clearly-labeled sponsored ad served by
PlayaYield, an ad network built for
browser extensions. Ads appear only on the extension's own bonus page — never injected into
the websites you visit. PlayaYield receives standard ad-request data (per its
policies); we do not share your
display name, fart counts or any other extension data with it.
Data deletion
Uninstalling the extension removes all locally stored data. To delete your scoreboard record
(device identifier, display name and counts) from our servers, email us the display name you
used at openjargon[at]gmail.com and we will remove it.
Children
The extension is a general-audience novelty toy. It collects no personal information from
anyone, children included.
